Gibson Custom Shop Split Headstock Flying V in cherry red.
Custom's historic collection curator, Edwin Wilson, found an original middle '50s concept illustration of a prototype Explorer featuring a split head stock. The unique headstock was eventually used only on the 1957 Korina Futura. It was that original Ted McCarty era illustration that inspired Custom's contemporary luthiers to create the new Flying V Split Headstock and the Explorer Split Headstock.
