Gibson Flying V archive · traditional 1967 reissue family

1983 Gibson Flying V

1983 is the closing year documented here for the traditional large-pickguard, 1967-reissue-style Flying V. Known surviving examples show that some production continued into 1983, but the quantity is unknown.

Finish and production evidence

Dealer listings document 1983 large-pickguard examples in Black and Alpine White. The archive guitar below is described as originally white, but it has been refinished; treat that as a reported finish rather than independent confirmation. These examples do not establish a complete factory finish list or quantities.

The redesigned no-pickguard Flying V I / Flying V ’83 is a separate family covered on the 1981–1988 Flying V I / Flying V ’83 page.
